Why Peninsula de Osa and Playa Dominical (South Pacific)?
The South Pacific or Peninsula de Osa (Bahia Drake and Puerto Jiménez) displays the biggest amount of virgin forests and, therefore, many opportunities to start ecotourism activities have appear during the last 10 years. It is also possible to find sport fishing in deep waters and diving. Someone said it is the best place in all the country to develop this practice. One of the favorite places for hiking and kayaking. Considered by many as the wildest and most exotic region in the entire country. It offers the possibility to observe virgin forests and the sighting of whales, macaws, tapirs, birds and exotic species.

How to get there?

San José - Puerto Jiménez: we will leave the capital through Curridabat, passing by Tres Ríos and Cartago, where we will take the route towards El Cerro de la Muerte, passing by towns like Chacarita, Peñas Blancas and Buenos Aires; we will then cross the Río General and other towns like Térraba, Rey Curré, Palmar Norte, Palmar Sur and Venecia, until we reach Chacarita. From there, we will take one last detour towards Rincón, Palma and, finally, we will stand in front of Puerto Jiménez.

San José - Bahía Drake: we will leave the capital through Curridabat, passing by Tres Ríos and Cartago, where we will take the route towards El Cerro de la Muerte, passing by the following towns: Sierra, Empalme, Cañón and División  in order to arrive to San Isidro del General. Approximately one tour later, we will be crossing Peñas Blancas and Buenos Aires. We will then cross the Río General and Térraba and Rey Curré town, until we reach Palmar Norte. Once there, we will turn towards the dock of Sierpe, where we will take a boat that will take us through mangles of this same river, until the opening. We will go then to Bahía Drake, San Josecito, San Pedrillo, among others.

Note: in order to be able to arrive at Puerto Jiménez from Chacarita it is required to enter with a four wheel drive car, because the access to town is very difficult due to the ballast route. In addition, if you are thinking about arriving at the Peninsula de Osa from Guanacaste or Arenal, we strongly recommend you to fly via one of the domestic flies offered by Sansa and Nature Air, since it would take you around 2 days in automobile and this experience, in fact, could be exhausting.
